Indian Head Massage in Leeds & West Yorkshire

Indian head massage is a hands-on therapy for the head, scalp, neck and shoulders. A session with me lasts 60 minutes and costs £65. It's a way of working with the places where so much of our everyday tension tends to settle, and giving yourself a little time away from everything that needs your attention.

We spend a lot of our lives in our heads. Thinking, planning, worrying, remembering what we've forgotten to do. Our shoulders creep up, our jaw tightens, and we don't always notice just how much we're holding until we finally stop.

Indian head massage gives you that opportunity to stop. To let your shoulders drop, quieten the noise for a while, and allow yourself to receive some care.

Supporting our heads, rather than punishing them

I think there is something really important to recognise about the way we live now, particularly as women.

So much of our lives happens in our heads. We're thinking, planning, remembering, organising, anticipating, worrying, making decisions and holding so much information about the people and things we care about. Even when we're physically resting, our minds can still be busy working through the next thing on the list.

And then, when our heads feel busy, when we can't switch off, when we're overthinking or struggling to find some quiet, we can find ourselves getting frustrated with them. We tell ourselves to stop thinking so much, to calm down, to switch off, to get out of our heads and back into our bodies.

But I wonder whether we need to look at this differently.

Our heads are doing what they are meant to do. They are processing, making sense of the world, keeping us safe, remembering what matters and helping us navigate the lives we live. The problem isn't necessarily that our heads are doing something wrong. It's that we are asking so much of them, often without giving them the support, care and space they need.

I think we need to move away from punishing our heads for being busy and instead start supporting them.

Rather than seeing our thoughts as something we need to fight against, or our busy minds as something we need to fix, what would it look like to offer ourselves a little more understanding? To recognise how much our heads are carrying and respond with care rather than frustration?

This is one of the things I love about Indian head massage.

Through the simple experience of nurturing touch, we can offer our heads some of the care they so often go without. We can give ourselves permission to pause, to receive and to be supported, without needing to achieve anything or make our minds behave in a particular way.

It's not about forcing ourselves to switch off. It's about creating the conditions for rest, and meeting ourselves where we are.

Because perhaps our heads don't need another thing to get right. Perhaps they need us to look after them a little more gently.

What is Indian head massage?

Indian head massage has its roots in traditional Ayurvedic practices, where massage has long been used as part of everyday care for the body and mind.

The session focuses on the scalp, head, neck and shoulders, using a combination of massage techniques and gentle pressure to work with the muscles and soft tissues in these areas.

It's particularly lovely if you carry tension in your neck and shoulders, spend a lot of time at a desk, or find that your mind rarely seems to switch off. It can also simply be a chance to receive some nurturing touch, without needing to do anything in return.

What can Indian head massage help with?

The neck and shoulders are places where we often carry the physical effects of stress and the demands of daily life. A tight jaw, aching shoulders and that feeling of never quite being able to relax are familiar to many of us.

Indian head massage can help ease muscular tension and encourage a sense of relaxation. Many people find it gives them a welcome opportunity to slow down and feel more settled.

It might be right for you if:

  • You carry tension through your neck and shoulders.
  • You find it difficult to switch off and relax.
  • Your mind feels busy, even when you're resting.
  • You spend long days at a desk, on a screen or on your feet.
  • Your jaw feels tight, or you notice you're holding your shoulders up.
  • You're caring for everyone else and haven't had time to be cared for yourself.
  • You'd simply like an hour of nurturing touch, with nothing asked of you.

It's also worth knowing this isn't only for women who are tense or stressed. Many women come to me because they'd like to feel looked after, with no particular reason at all.

What happens in a session?

Your session begins with a short conversation. I'll ask how you're feeling, where you tend to hold tension, and what you'd like from your time. There's no rush, and you can tell me anything that would help you feel more comfortable.

The massage itself works through the scalp, head, neck and shoulders with a mix of massage techniques and gentle pressure, always at a level that feels right for you. I'll tell you what I'm doing as I go, and you're welcome to tell me to go lighter or firmer at any point.

Afterwards there's a little time to settle before you head back into your day. A session lasts 60 minutes in total. Many people like to drink some water afterwards and keep the rest of the day a little gentler if they can.

Before you book

Please let me know before your session if you're pregnant, if you've recently had a head or neck injury, or if you have any broken skin on your scalp, so we can talk it through together. If you're not sure whether Indian head massage is right for you, get in touch and ask. That's what the discovery call is for.

An Indian head massage session with me costs £65 for 60 minutes. I also offer a free 30-minute discovery call if you would like a chat before you book.

A session is 60 minutes. That includes a few minutes at the start to talk about how you are feeling and what you would like from your time, and a little time at the end to settle before you head back out into your day.

Wear something comfortable that you can relax in, ideally with a neckline that lets me reach your neck and shoulders easily. I will always tell you what I am doing and check you are comfortable.

Oil is optional, and I will talk it through with you before we begin. If you would rather not have oil in your hair, we can work without it.

A scalp massage focuses on the scalp. Indian head massage also includes the neck, shoulders and upper back, which is where so many of us hold tension, so it feels like care for the whole of your head and the places that support it.

Often, yes, but please tell me before you book so we can talk about it. I will ask about how you are feeling, and I can also tell you about my pregnancy and postnatal sessions if one of those would suit you better. If you have had a recent injury to your head or neck, or you have any broken skin on your scalp, let me know before your session too.
