Mizan Therapy

About Me
Hi I’m Kay. I am married and have 2 children - Harriet and Owen. I’m a trained Mizan therapist and Scar Release Massage Practitioner.I also volunteer as a breastfeeding peer supporter on postnatal wards and in groups across Leeds.I want to empower women to reconnect with their cycles and embrace the power they have within. Having had 2 children myself, I’ve come to learn the importance of women’s health, and I really want to help women with theirs, especially during pregnancy and postnatally. This is what I am really passionate about.I trained to become a Mizan therapist so I could give women the confidence to explore alternative ways of easing any difficulties they may be having with their menstrual cycles: PCOS, endometriosis, fertility issues, digestive challenges, IBS... The list goes on.I trained as a Scar Release Massage Therapist, because of how scar massage release supported me on my healing journey, after having two c-sections.My journey so far has made me realise that the knowledge behind women’s health and breastfeeding is still extremely limited and as a result, many women are made to feel like “they” are the problem. I want women to know that this is just not the case. Instead, let’s tune into ourselves more, listen to what our body is telling us it needs, and let’s live a balanced lifestyle that will give us the peace, contentment and happiness we all deserve. If you would like to book an initial session with me to find out how I could help you, please get in touch.

Mizan Treatments
Your initial Mizan session with me is made up of two parts. The first part is where we talk a lot about why you have come for Mizan and I’ll take you through your intake form. This part can sometimes bring up a lot of emotions, which you will be fully supported through. The second part is where the magic happens with a beautiful and wholesome massage to bring balance and harmony to your body and soul, working on the five life forces. The session is not rushed and I’ll go at the pace that is right for you throughout the whole treatment.During the session I’ll also give you some suggestions on lifestyle, diet and self care practices to do when you are at home. These sessions are for you to be heard and a safe space to be held for you to share.
Pregnancy Massage
The traditional techniques that are used in a Mizan pregnancy massage can help with baby positioning, womb alignment and help alleviate some of the symptoms that come with pregnancy such as; pelvic girdle pain, back pain, breathlessness, reflux and many more.A Mizan pregnancy massage is a beautiful way to honour and celebrate yourself and your baby for the life you are creating.Modern life is really busy, but Mizan pregnancy massage allows you to find a piece of calm and tranquility to connect with your baby, yourself and tune into your intuition. You will be honouring and celebrating the sacred journey of pregnancy, birth and beyond. Most importantly it makes you and your baby feel good!I am trained in Biomechanics for birth and if I feel your body and baby need further support with alignment, I include some of these moves in the massage, which supports with breech and transverse babies, and is also very beneficial if you are having an induction as they can get baby in their optimum position ahead of this. The treatment itself is around 2 hours, where we will go through your intake form in great detail, I will then guide you through a meditation and then the beautiful massage takes place. The session is not rushed and I’ll go at the pace that is right for you throughout the whole treatment.

Postpartum Offerings
Mizan Therapy post birth is extremely beneficial in supporting the woman's postnatal body during the transition from maiden to mother. It supports the mother to rest and restore, whilst also assisting the internal organs gently back into there optimum position, and supports the alignment and positioning of her hips, pelvis and sacrum area.Depending on the birth, Mizan can be done before the 6 week check up. If a C-section has taken place then once the scar is closed.Sacred Wrapping
I also offer sacred wrapping/closing ceremonies alone or alongside a Mizan therapy massage.Sacred wrapping is a way to support a woman's journey after birth and celebrate the miraculous event of conceiving, growing and birthing a baby.It is a ritual a moment of reflection, peace, contemplation and renewal.Sacred wrapping doesn't have to be limited to closing the postnatal period, it can be practiced after baby loss, the end of a breastfeeding journey, divorce, and any life journey that you want to acknowledge. As a society, we have lost this practice, but it is starting to come back and what a joy and honour it is for me to be able to offer this to women.I work with a woman to make her ceremony bespoke and personal for her. In this I usually include a womb massage, and then wrapping rebozo scarves around her body to support, honour and celebrate the journey she has been on.
